Hi! I’m Sanjana, an ecological designer and architect working at the intersection of regenerative design, ecological restoration, masterplanning and landscape design.

I grew up in cantonments across the country, surrounded by gardens and green spaces that sparked my love for plants and landscapes. But it was the wild, overgrown edges - abandoned gardens and forgotten corners - where my curiosity came alive. With a family that shared a deep love for wildlife, farming and botany, my interest in ecology - and in shaping spaces - took root early on.

I’ve always been drawn to art and mathematics, and that blend of intuition and structure led me to architecture. My final year thesis, “Redesigning Bengaluru’s Pottery Town”, examined a culturally significant neighbourhood through social, cultural, vocational and social lenses. The project addressed housing, drainage, workshop infrastructure and the need for shared community spaces, proposing a more dignified and vibrant environment for the potter families. This project was one of my earliest explorations of designing for people, place and interconnected systems at a neighbourhood scale.

After my Bachelor’s degree, I briefly explored interior design but soon found myself drawn back to systems design and landscapes. A Permaculture Design Certification course with Rico Zook expanded my understanding of regenerative design and ecology.

For the last five years, I’ve been part of the diverse team at Ananas Design, based in Bangalore, India. My work focuses on ecological site assessments, water management, planting design and regenerative land-use strategies across farms and rural landscapes. I enjoy blending technical design tools with systems thinking, using them to create spaces that are resilient, beautiful and deeply rooted in ecology.

Outside of work, I love exploring art, craft and natural history, often finding quiet ways to connect with plants, materials and landscapes. You can find my personal explorations here.
